When did you first attend the SODEM protest outside Parliament and why did you come?

I first attended Sodem after Easter 2018I came on spec not knowing if it was for me. I just knew I had to do more.

Roughly how old are you?

I am mid 60s now. Early 60s in 2018.

How frequently did you come and when was the last time you attended?

At first I went to SODEM every 2-4 weeks. Then by autumn 2018 it grew to 2-3 times a week. The last time I was at SODEM was 10th December 2020. Things got tricky with travel and COVID.

How far from Westminster do you live and what was your travelling time?

I live near the end of a tube line and I allow an hour and a half for travel.

What’s your favourite memory?

I have so many good and precious memories but the most fun thing ever was standing on the platform of the red double decker bus, driving round Westminster protesting with flag, whistle and shouting ‘No lies on this red bus’.

Tell me your story

My story: I took languages at school and visited Europe. I have felt European for a long time and was proud to vote Remain in 1975. By that time it was a post Empire world where our future lay with Europe; I could also see the USSR flexing its muscles and we needed the security of our European neighbours – not isolation. I campaigned against the fascist BNP in the 1970s and loads of other stuff. I have worked and lived in Italy, France and Germany. Everyone should have the same opportunities. My first demo was when I was still at school.
