When did you first attend Sodem protest outside Parliament and why did you come?

I came to demonstrate outside Westminster as a member of Bath for Europe when Steve was hitting the headlines.  I have been a Europhile all my life and I used to travel up from Bath and start selling my EU berets.

Roughly how old are you?

Let’s say retirement age

How frequently did you come and when was the last time you attended?

Used to come up about every 2 weeks and if ever there were special demos and sometimes to deliver bEUrets to SODEM.  Sadly, missed the last January protest in 2020

How far do you live from Westminster and what is your travelling time?

120 miles; 2.5 hours door-to-door.

What is your favourite memory?

So many memories – loved it when the Yorkshire Group – about 50 of them with their brass instruments – arrived outside Westminster playing loudly and marched through an astonished group of Brexiters, scattering them – that shut them up! I think also getting to know a like-minded dedicated group who came from all over the country – we didn’t have to explain ourselves – we knew we were on the right side of history.

But it was having Steve and the group from SODEM there day after day as they were the country’s Remain beacon who we deeply respected and coalesced around.

Tell Me Your Story

I designed the bEUrets – 12 stars on a blue beret in 2017.  Initially I made them up myself with volunteers but when they began to become very popular, I had them manufactured and started selling them online and at anti-Brexit marches throughout the country and political conferences in Manchester, Brighton, Bristol, Bournemouth, Exeter and London.  It was purely not for profit and proceeds given to Remain causes.  For the remaining stock left, all profits go the Good Law Project.  The place we enjoyed the most was outside the Commons with Steve and his lieutenants with trails of people following behind and especially when there was a vote on in the House and followers would rock up after work.
