When did you first attend the SODEM protest outside Parliament and why did you come?

Feb / March 2018. I felt the British public had been conned into participating in an EU Referendum, which had been a Tory issue since Margaret Thatcher’s era.

Roughly how old are you?

60+

How frequently did you come and when was the last time you attended?

Every 3 to 4 months

My most recent meeting with SODEM was on first July 2019.

How far from Westminster do you live and what was your travelling time?

90 miles from Salisbury to Westminster, taking 2/2.30 hrs each way.

What’s your favourite memory?

There were many early ones, when a person travelling to Demark came over spontaneously and we held a poster I had done with him and Steve. Individual photos with people I got to know more closely over the period of time at SODEM . Getting to know a wide range of people who had a wide range of reasons to be at SODEM .

Tell me your story

Long before the EU Referendum I always classed myself as being European when asked that question on questionnaires, so it was a natural and normal feeling to be European. When my son was born, we always celebrated  Christmas on Christmas eve as they do in Europe, so it was instinctive.

Fast forward to when we were suddenly removed from the EU union on that fated morning { where I had woken suddenly at 5 am and later realised that was when the fateful event had happened } . The majority of my adult life I had been within the EU, so I was shaken and in tears. At the time I was selling my home in Dorset so it will always be a poignant memory. My German friend was the first person I texted. Then about 6 months later I managed to get my Irish passport { with having Irish parents } so at least I can REMAIN European. During all my campaigning, with the help of my son have, I produced 5 videos relating to the mess we find ourselves in. They’ve had thousands of views online .

I am involved in my local Europe group on the Social Media side and have sent probably up to a total of a thousand emails to MP,s including my own local Tory MP. Signed up to 100 petitions. Been to the EU parliament to present a letter to Mr Barnier from our local group and sent him from Brussels on a separate time a recorded letter with a card and one of my illustrations asking many legal questions. Later I discovered that they cannot respond to legal questions.

So I have been heavily involved and expended much energy. I went on the majority of the major marches and a local one. Hundreds of images taken over the years. I feel this gives you a rough idea of my involvement.
