When did you first attend the SODEM protest outside Parliament and why did you come? 

About 2017, because I was so utterly disgusted that Brexit was being forced on our country. I found it not only undemocratic but deeply unpatriotic. I cried when it happened, because I was, and am, afraid. The similarities between the rise of the Nazis in 1930’s Germany and the racist campaign of Brexit was very obvious to me, and I could not understand why people could not see it.

Roughly how old are you?

I am nearly 58

How frequently did you come and when was the last time you attended?

I used to come when I could. Sometimes up to one a week, but usually less frequently. I was there at the end of the “last” protest  just before Christmas 2019.

How far from Westminster do you live and what was your travelling time?

I live in London, so it is a 20 minute train journey.

What’s your favourite memory?

The “Bollocks to Brexit”  bus.

Dancing with the “Hare Krishna” people who were trying to get Remainers and Leavers together – very sweet of them, but I do not think most leavers wanted a polite debate with us.

The day I discovered the band “Muse” standing outside the Cabinet office waving an EU flag.

Tell me your story

I was born in the Midlands in the early 60s. I love animals and music. I have always been against violence and used to do a lot of CND marches in the 1980s. I came out as gay a few years before Clause 28. I have been a nurse now for 26 years. I was drawn to SODEM because I was so afraid about what Brexit was doing to my country. I felt I should try to do something to try and stop it. Even though we did not-at this point succeed, I know I tried in my  own small way.  I just hope our country can get through this and I would like to apologise to the young people of Britain who had their rights as EU citizens taken from them – in many cases by their own parents and grandparents. I love my job very much, but when I retire I would like to help people by being involved in music and/or run a cat sanctuary. I love travelling and am furious that my EU citizenship is being taken away from me.
