When did you first attend the SODEM protest outside Parliament and why did you come? 

December 2018 – wanted to stand with the SODEM boys and girls (and meet Steve of course!)

How frequently did you come and when was the last time you attended?

Probably four occasions. Last time, September 2019.

How far from Westminster do you live and what was your travelling time?

Newbury Berkshire. Approximately 2 hours.

What’s your favourite memory?

So many. To be honest, every time I went was a favourite. Some occasions it was intimidating. I was there the evening of the first voting down of Theresa May’s Deal and there were a lot of Brexit supporters mingling amongst us being very hostile. Meeting Janet and James Sheerin from Newcastle upon Tyne was probably the high point. We used to live a few doors down from them in the late 1980’s and I had not seen them since. A very inspiring couple!

Tell me your story

I was devastated by the Brexit Referendum result in 2016. Up until that point, I had always thought “The Great British Public” always had the good sense to make the right decision on matters of great national importance. I felt a huge sense of loss following the Referendum. I felt that the Country I had always been proud to say I was a citizen of, somehow no longer existed.  Sadly, since the Referendum, that sense has only got stronger and stronger. Always a liberal, I joined the LibDems and my wife and I became Town Councillors in Newbury. We campaigned hard for the 2019 European Elections and the disastrous December 2019 General Election. I clung onto the hope that we may not leave in the end but that hope has now been dashed sadly. The lies and deceit the “Vote Leave” Campaign spun is now out there for all to see but the Tory Government we have now is totally incompetent, has no shame, no conscience and carries on regardless. I fear we, as a nation, are heading for a very dark period of time.
