When did you first attend the SODEM protest outside Parliament and why did you come?

I first came in November 2018, I believe. I just had to do something. I couldn’t sit and watch it happen from afar.

Roughly how old are you?

56

How frequently did you come and when was the last time you attended?

I came infrequently, or as frequently as I could! I think the last time was in October 2019 for the big march.

How far from Westminster do you live and what was your travelling time?

I travelled from Paris and back every time. So about five hours travel time one way, and hotel nearby.

What’s your favourite memory?

So many… Cake Not Hate, Pies Not Lies, the spirit in the big marches… and the general feeling of camaraderie.

Tell me your story

I was in Britain when the referendum took place. I was shocked when the “leave” vote came in. By the beginning of 2017 I was living back in Paris.

The repercussions of Brexit are far reaching, including the U.K. citizens living abroad. My freedom and rights are affected.

I was despondent, until I heard the voice shouting “Stop Brexit!” behind the news reports. There was somebody doing something! I had to be part of it. As soon as I could I came over to London and joined in the shouting and protesting outside Parliament. Something had to be done. I had to do something. I couldn’t just sit there and watch.
Being far away I couldn’t get there very often, so I contributed in other ways as best I could.

I was proud to have stood up and protested, and proud of so many others who did too, some of whom I was humbled to meet and shout along with. I was proud and happy to meet new friends, Steve Bray, and all the core team. The spirit lives on.
