Tell me your story

I have been strongly pro-EU since it began. I believe the reasons for Brexit are still widely misunderstood by many in Britain, based on social media posts, and articles in the British press. Over the years I have watched with incredulity the campaign of EU-bashing in most of the British media going unchallenged. A constant refrain of distortions, misinformation, and simple lies, that laid the foundations for Brexit long before the referendum was called.

I am not blind to the faults inherent in a huge bureaucracy like the European parliament, but Brexit was not about that. The financial crash of 2007 – 2008 exposed some of the major shortcomings of our present system of financial scrutiny and regulation. In the City, all efforts concentrated on getting things back to where they were. When the EU set out to try and improve things, tighten up the trading rules, and introduce measures to prevent future crashes, it spurred the anti-EU movement into action. Behind the Leave campaign was serious funding by those in the City who could lose out.

For me, my business, and my family, Brexit is a tragic loss. I will never accept that Brexit was a democratic decision, by an informed public, in a fair and representative vote.  I will continue to object in any and every way to the theft of my freedoms, the opportunities lost to my children, and the shameful and embarrassing posturing by British politicians. As a country we are shamed and ridiculed by attempts to blame the EU for all the negative outcomes of Brexit.
