When did you first attend the SODEM protest outside Parliament and why did you come?

10th December 2017. I had seen pics of Steve Bray as a lone protester in the Autumn and wanted to show that he wasn’t alone.

Roughly how old are you?

Mid 50’s

How frequently did you come and when was the last time you attended?

I tried to get to London at least once a month during 2018 & 2019, and more frequently if finances would allow. My last outing was in December 2019

How far from Westminster do you live and what was your travelling time?

60 miles or so, about an 1hr 40mins door to SODEM.

What’s your favourite memory?

There have been a few: singing with Dame Sarah Connolly in December 2018; watching Yorkshire arrive like a galleon in full sail on a particularly testing day of pro-Brexit idiots; just generally making friends with people I would never have otherwise encountered…

Tell me your story

I voted Remain. We had such a great place at the EU top table I couldn’t believe that anyone would see giving it up as a good thing. I cried on the morning of 24th June 2016. However, I’m a pragmatist and hoped that the government would administer the decision taking into account the voices and interests of both the Leave and Remain voters, given how close the vote was. Then, May got the Tory Leadership and called Remainers citizens of nowhere and saboteurs… and I was LIVID.

I joined the pro EU March in London in March 2017, the first time I had marched in protest in my life, I then went on the Manchester march in October 2017, tagging along with the Stratford4europe group. After that I would drive over an hour on Saturday to join their street campaign. I joined a more local, Banbury group at the time Brexitomters took off, and when there wasn’t a street stall in Banbury, I would travel to other areas to help on other stalls. I was at the Birmingham rally as a Marshall. I’ve been to all but one of the London pro EU marches, and joined the protest outside the cabinet office in summer 2019. I still believe our best place is in the EU and we have been robbed of that by a bunch of lying, self serving, disaster capitalist charlatans. I continue to be worried for the future of my country.
