When did you first attend the SODEM protest outside Parliament and why did you come?

Since early 2018. I live in south London and when time, funds and childcare arrangements permitted, I have protested with SODEM to show resistance to Brexit. I have brought with me at various times: my kids in prams, a grandma and visiting friends from Germany.

Roughly how old are you?

Mid 40’s

How frequently did you come and when was the last time you attended?

When time, funds and school runs permit. Roughly every couple of months. But when there was a call out for a big show of demonstrators, I would come if I could. Last attended: Thursday 30th January 2020.

How far from Westminster do you live and what was your travelling time?

I live in south London. Takes me 50 minutes to get to Westminster.

What’s your favourite memory?

I was at SODEM with my toddler son and pensioner mother and in a hail and snowstorm, so that was memorable! The Stop the Coup/Prorogation days were fantastic in a sense of people power.

Tell me your story

Dad was Polish. He came here after the war as a teenage refugee. Mum is British. Our entire life was centred on the fact that we are European and anti-fascist. I was an Erasmus student at uni. Half my friends are from the rest of Europe. This is the first political movement I’ve taken part in because it affects me personally. Better late than never? It’s been an eye opener. I’ve learnt to never judge a book by its cover, and that there are some really obnoxious people out there with very loud voices. First time I was called a Nazi, I got really upset (seeing as my dad had fought the actual Nazis), second time I was called a Nazi I was also called a communist in the same breath, so I smiled at their ignorance. But there are more decent people who are not used to protesting but are emboldened when they see others do it. Doing street stalls in different parts of my town really showed how these Trump Tories have left places to rot. Resist forever!
