When did you first attend the SODEM protest outside Parliament and why did you come?
I believe it was with RemainerNow in 2017. I wanted to see you all and thank you! I feel I was lied to badly during the referendum and tricked of my vote.
To see people treated so badly simply because of how they voted, the horrific way EU citizens were treated and knowing so many would lose they rights when they were promised they wouldn’t be was so wrong! Why should falling for a lie make everyone suffer? It’s not right.
Roughly how old are you?
38
How frequently did you come and when was the last time you attended?
I tried to come every 2-4 weeks term time (I care for my sons full-time so I could only come between school hours) but wished I could have been with you more!
How far from Westminster do you live and what was your travelling time?
I travel so from Southend on Sea, Essex. It took around 90+ mins.
What’s your favourite memory?
‘Pies Not Lies’, singing ‘Ode to Joy’ … too many amazing memories x
Tell me your story
I was very 50:50 during the referendum as to how to vote – the whole situation was scary and I voted leave thinking we’d be staying in the single market at least, that we’d have £350 million for our NHS (they have and are helping my sons massively) and that EU citizens and British in Europe would have “unchanged” rights… This all turned out to be untrue! The NHS pledge was told by Mr Farage to be a “mistake” the morning after the vote!!! The increase in xenophobia has been disgusting and seeing the EU being treated so appallingly showed me just how nasty Brexit is.
I was scared speaking out at first and you all did the most amazing thing – you understood me. I have been lied to so badly … we all have … but you showed compassion.
Those that lied to me must be responsible for how they act and while I see more lies are used to try and cover those lies, I see everyone at SODEM, our friends and indeed all our Continent seeing the truth, and growing stronger together.
