When did you first attend the SODEM protest outside Parliament and why did you come? 

30^th April, 2018. I was following Steve’s tweets, and remember one about a young man being assaulted, and thought ‘these people need support’. I wanted to express solidarity on behalf of Norfolk for Europe.

Roughly how old are you?

I am 57.

How frequently did you come and when was the last time you attended?

Once a month, depending on work (if I was in London, I would ‘drop in’), then weekly by late 2019 as I was between jobs. I last attended on the day of the State Opening of Parliament, December 2019.

How far from Westminster do you live and what was your travelling time?

It was about 2.5 hours each way by earliest/latest Megabus (bless them) and the Tube.

What’s your favourite memory?

Many brilliant memories: Steve’s improvisation with his elevated signs on plumber’s pipes for the TV platforms in November 2019 stand out. Best day was ‘Cake not Hate’, so much clever, creative energy on display. So much solidarity from passers-by, especially European tourists. Big vote nights in Parliament Square, like when May’s bill was voted down, were electric.

Tell me your story

Just pleased to have been a part of it, and to be able to face my children and say we tried. The whole episode has taught me too much about political power in my country to note here. We will be vindicated, eventually, but by our children, and it must now be by wholesale reform, overdue by at least a generation.
