When did you first attend the SODEM protest outside Parliament and why did you come?

November 7th, 2017, after I had met Steve Bray in Manchester at the Tory Party conference demo. I was in London to renew my Dutch passport and thought I would join him before my appointment; afterwards I came back, as it was good to make a stand in front of Parliament and Steve gave me that platform.

Roughly how old are you?

62

How frequently did you come and when was the last time you attended?

I came about 10 times over the years; the last time was January 30th, 2020, when again Steve and SODEM gave me a place to go to on a rotten momentous day.

How far from Westminster do you live and what was your travelling time?

About 90 miles; the train takes one hour to st Pancras.

What’s your favourite memory?

The camaraderie and opportunity to make a stand with others every time I came over.

Tell me your story

I am an EU citizen, who campaigned before the referendum and have been somewhat active in the Remain movement.   Like so many others I have been devastated seeing what the country I loved has become.   I work in the NHS and am concerned about its future, especially when no longer in the EU.   Having a ‘home to go to’ in SODEM and being able to make myself heard in that way has helped me, and I hope it has helped others. I have met many lovely people at SODEM and wish everyone the best. Maybe one day all of us and the other million plus can have a celebration march…
