When did you first attend the SODEM protest outside Parliament and why did you come?
Early on, but can’t remember when exactly!
Roughly how old are you?
82
How frequently did you come and when was the last time you attended?
Many times (I knew Steve from before). I will ask my friend because I think we may have also gone to a meeting in Central Hall as well – sorry to be vague!
How far from Westminster do you live and what was your travelling time?
About 70 miles – 2.5 to 3 hours each way by car, coach and feet/tube.
What’s your favourite memory?
When Teresa May lost her vote on 15th January, 2019, and I fell on my face in Parliament Square!!
Tell me your story
I was horrified on 24th June, 2016 – I just could not believe the British people could be so bloody stupid and I said so on FB. My son was home for his birthday 23rd June!!! and we were speechless at first and then sat at the breakfast table in total shock. Because of my comment on FB I began to meet others of like mind and joined a lot of the groups which were starting up. As I had only just moved house I really didn’t meet real people until the beginning of 2017 and then I got very involved. That was when I met Steve for the first time. I think I have been to every march in the country apart from Leeds and Scotland! Certainly, all the ones in London. I am a passionate European – always have been – and sad, devastated and very angry at the situation now, and miserable that we could not stop this stupidity however hard we tried.
I eventually also met local people and we started our own groups and held weekly stalls in the town centre and wrote letters to local newspapers and MP’s including, our own which is a waste of time and paper (ERG!). Brexit is madness and our government is corrupt, and we have failed for the time being, but I will never give up the fight to rejoin as long as I have breath! Is this any use to you or have I said too much?!
